Update on Parking Fees

November 9, 2001

TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

As I shared with you in my memo of November 6, I have formed a Chancellor’s Special Advisory Committee on Parking to represent and engage our campus community in a thorough analysis of parking issues.

This committee met today, and upon their recommendation, there will be no action taken on parking permit fees until the committee has had time to understand and deliberate all of the pertinent issues, consult with the campus, and make a recommendation to me on permit fees. I anticipate this process will take up to five months. Therefore, there will be no increase in parking fees in January 2002.

In a related action, I have removed the Lot 10 Parking Structure finance plan from the agenda for the November 14-15 meeting of the UC Regents. Schematic design for the structure will continue, and the Special Advisory Committee on Parking will be provided an opportunity to examine cost and capacity of the structure.

I would like to thank the members of the advisory committee for so quickly responding to this challenge. I deeply appreciate their dedicated and timely efforts, as well as the input of all who are participating in this process.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang

Chancellor
