Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Janine Jones as our next Associate Vice Chancellor for Graduate Affairs and Anne and Michael Towbes Dean of the Graduate Division, effective July 1, 2025.

We are grateful for the efforts of our search advisory committee, co-chaired by Professors Rachel Segalman and Robin Nabi, for conducting our search for this important position. The members of the search advisory committee are listed below. We would also like to thank EVC David Marshall, our Academic Senate chair, and members of our campus community who participated in the search and consultation process.

Dr. Jones joins our campus from the University of Washington, where she is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of School Psychology in the College of Education. She is a licensed psychologist and has been a clinical supervisor in the UW School of Psychology Clinic. Dr. Jones’s research and teaching are committed to multiculturalism and the importance of understanding, respecting, and incorporating culture and culturally responsive interventions and practices with youth in schools and related settings.

In 2023, Dr. Jones was honored with the Legend in School Psychology award at the Black School Psychologists Network Inaugural Summit. She was inducted into the Society for the Study of School Psychology in 2021, and served as the Vice President for Professional Affairs with the American Psychological Association: Division 16 from 2018-2024. She is currently serving as an elected member of the American Psychological Association’s Board of Professional Affairs.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Science degree in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling (MFCC) from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Janine Jones as our Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Graduate Division. We appreciate the vision, leadership, and scholarship that she brings to this important position.

I would also like to take this opportunity to again extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to Interim Dean Leila Rupp, who has graciously served our campus in this role. We are deeply grateful to Interim Dean Rupp for her extraordinary service and leadership to our graduate students, faculty, and staff while our Graduate Division has continued to flourish. We look forward with great enthusiasm to the Division’s continued achievement under Dr. Jones’s leadership.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
