February 4, 2024
Dear Members of Our Campus Community,
I am writing to inform you that due to local storm conditions we are experiencing, and following consultation with our student leadership, Academic Senate Chair, Executive Vice Chancellor, Dean of Undergraduate Education, Student Affairs, Administrative Services, and other campus leadership, instructors should move to remote instruction or reschedule classes that are scheduled for Monday, February 5, wherever possible, and make arrangements for any students who are unable to participate in their classes on Monday. Instructors should inform students as soon as possible.
While the campus remains safe, open, and operational, and the local forecast for tomorrow is not as severe as initial predictions, supervisors should allow our staff colleagues who are impacted by the storm or local school closures to work remotely, wherever possible, or request time off on Monday, February 5.
Normal campus operations will resume on Tuesday, February 6, unless otherwise notified. We will continue to monitor the situation and will communicate any necessary updates. For answers to more specific questions, students should contact their instructors and staff should contact their supervisors.
Campus events scheduled for today and tomorrow are continuing as planned, unless otherwise notified by event organizers.
Information about this storm can be found at https://www.countyofsb.org/4135/February-2024-Storm. UC Santa Barbara updates related to the storm will be posted on the UCSB.edu homepage. If you have not already done so, please register or check that your information is up-to-date in UCSB Alert (alert.ucsb.edu) to receive emergency notifications from the campus.
As always, we are grateful for your cooperation and flexibility as we work together to prioritize the well-being of our campus community members and their families. Please be safe and take good care during this challenging weather.
Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
