Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

I wrote earlier today to share the news that Professor Emeritus Janis Ingham has decided to devote herself full-time to her distinguished teaching and research career as an emeritus member of our Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, after 19 years of dedicated service as our campus’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. I am now delighted to announce that Professor Steve Buratto has graciously agreed to serve as our new Faculty Athletics Representative.

Dr. Buratto joined our campus community in 1994. He is a member of our Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, conducting research in microscopy and spectroscopy to study surfaces on a nanoscopic scale. A long-time youth sports coach in our local community, Steve was a college student-athlete and has a sound understanding of NCAA Division I athletics. He has served as a member of our Intercollegiate Athletics Policy Board throughout the years, and most recently as a member of the Athletic Admissions Review Committee (AARC). Steve’s knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm will be tremendous assets for our campus as he takes on the role of NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative.

In this role, Steve will participate in the institutional governance of intercollegiate athletics, serving as a liaison between the institution and the athletics department and also as a representative of our university in conference and NCAA affairs. We are grateful for his willingness to serve our campus in this important role.

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Steve as he prepares to begin his new duties on September 1, 2023.

Sincerely,

Henry Yang
Chancellor
