Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

It is my pleasure to join with Executive Vice Chancellor David Marshall in announcing the appointment of Dr. Josh Bright as Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, effective August 15, 2022.

We are grateful to our search advisory committee, chaired by Executive Dean Pierre Wiltzius, for conducting a rigorous national search for this important position. The members of the search committee are listed below. We would also like to thank our many colleagues, including faculty, staff, and students, who provided important consultation and advice throughout the search process.

Josh Bright joins UC Santa Barbara after working in multiple positions at the University of California, Riverside for almost 20 years, where he served as the Interim Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer, responsible for the strategic leadership of the central campus Information Technology Solutions (ITS) organization. He also served as Associate Director/Senior Program Manager of ITS’s Demand & Premium Services, designing and implementing key IT services for the campus, and as UCPath Campus Program Manager, leading UC Riverside through its successful transformation and implementation of PeopleSoft Human Capital Management. Earlier in his career, he served as ITS Project Manager and Lead, overseeing the Human Resources and graduate student systems teams.

Josh Bright received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Riverside; an M.A. in Philosophy from Northern Illinois University; and a B.A. in Philosophy and Theological Studies from Wheaton College. He holds certificates in IT Service Management, Digital & IT Strategy, and Lean IT, and recently completed the UC IT Leadership program at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

We want to take this opportunity to gratefully acknowledge the dedicated service of Interim Chief Information Officer Shea Lovan, who has overseen our Enterprise Technology Services since February 2021. We thank Shea for his outstanding leadership during the challenging time of the pandemic.

We look forward to warmly welcoming Josh Bright to campus as our next Associate Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
