Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce the formation of a Coastal Planning Science Advisory Board for our campus. An important step identified in our Long Range Development Plan is a study of future sea level rise and the impact on our campus and our long-term vision for the campus. As we plan for the future, it is important that we consider potential environmental changes and the challenges they may present, including bluff erosion and sea level rise impacts to the estuaries north of campus, the North Campus Open Space, our eastern shoreline, and our Campus Lagoon.

Professor John Melack has graciously agreed to chair this science advisory board, which will direct and oversee the efforts of a consultant team that will help us prepare our campus sea level rise study. I sincerely thank Professor Melack and all of our advisory board members, listed below, for their willingness to contribute their time, energy, and expertise to help us with this important planning effort for our campus's future.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
