Dear Members of our Campus Community,

I am writing to invite all of you to join us in recognizing and appreciating the accomplishments and contributions of our staff colleagues during Staff Celebration Week (May 14 – May 18).

Our staff members are an integral part of our UC Santa Barbara family, and we will celebrate together to honor the commitment and dedicated service of our staff.

Our staff colleagues contribute tremendously throughout the year. We want to especially acknowledge and express our deep gratitude for the exemplary efforts during the Thomas Fire and Montecito debris flows. We recognize that many of our staff colleagues were personally impacted by those events, and we extend our sincere thanks for the hard work and sacrifice that went into supporting not only our students, but also critical research projects on campus, the residents of the Red Cross shelter, and — very importantly — each other during those challenging times. We depend on our staff colleagues in countless ways, and we are honored to show our appreciation.

The kickoff event for the week will be our annual Ice Cream Social, sponsored by StaffAssembly, Monday, May 14, at noon in the SAASB Courtyard. The Staff Celebration WeekLuncheon and Presentation of Staff Awards will be held Tuesday, May 15, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on The Club Lawn. Other scheduled events include the Staff Assembly Cookie Contest set for Thursday, May 17, at noon in the Library; and the Staff Social, Arts & Crafts Bazaar and Staff Assembly Drawing from 2 – 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, at the Recreation Center. You can find more information about the week’s events on the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council (CSAC) website at http://csac.ucsb.edu.

We encourage all of our staff colleagues to participate in the week’s activities. Year in and year out, it is an opportunity for us to come together, enjoy one another’s company, and celebrate the relationships and friendships that make our campus such a wonderful community.

We extend our sincere thanks to all of our staff colleagues for their dedication and commitment to our campus community. Dilling and I look forward to seeing all of you at our Staff Celebration Week activities.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
