May 19, 2016

Dear Members of our Campus Community,

Next Monday, May 23, marks the two-year anniversary of the tragic events in Isla Vista. We invite you to join with our community for a special ceremonial performance by our students and colleagues. “The Table of Silence Project UCSB: We Remember” will take place in Storke Plaza, beginning at noon on Monday, and will also be streamed live.

The Table of Silence Project was created by New York-based choreographer Jacqulyn Buglisi to mark the ten-year anniversary of the events of 9/11/2001, and as a tribute to the lives lost. It is also a call for peaceful dialogue in times of conflict, and has been performed around the world since its inception.

Seventy-five UCSB Theater and Dance majors will perform the piece, accompanied by Azeem Ward on flute, William Pasley and Russ Glick as percussionists, and Naked Voices as vocalists. Patrick Lindley is the musical director. Christina McCarthy, Interim Vice Chair and Director of Dance for our Department of Theater and Dance, has taken the lead to bring this unique piece to our campus, with the generous support of Jody and John Arnhold, UC Santa Barbara Foundation Trustee.

We hope you will join us for this very special occasion of remembrance and commemoration.

Sincerely,
