TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Beverly Colgate as our next Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, effective July 1, 2012. Beverly will also serve as the Executive Director of the UC Santa Barbara Foundation.

This appointment follows an extensive national search and the recommendation of our search advisory committee, chaired by Dean David Marshall. On behalf of our campus, I extend our sincere thanks to David and to all of our search committee members, listed below, for their excellent work. I also would like to thank all those who provided their input during the search process.

Beverly Colgate has more than 25 years of experience in Development, including 20 years here at UC Santa Barbara. She served as Director of Development for the American Red Cross in Los Angeles for four years prior to joining our campus in 1991 as Prospect Researcher in the Office of Development. She distinguished herself quickly, and continued to do so over the next two decades, through her talent for cultivating and building rapport with major donors; her ability to manage large teams, significant budgets, and strategic long-term projects; and her deep understanding of and appreciation for our multifaceted research university environment. Beverly became Director of Prospect Management in 1993; Director of Development for Gift Strategy in 1998; and Senior Director of Development for Parents Fund and Outreach and for Advancement and Development Services in 2007.

Following the retirement of Associate Vice Chancellor for Development Gary Greinke, Beverly stepped into the role of Acting Associate Vice Chancellor in July 2011. She has provided superb leadership at a critical time for our campus, including our official launch last month of the second phase of the Campaign for UC Santa Barbara.

We look forward to Beverly's leadership of our Development Office as we build on our Campaign momentum, and as we work together across the campus to invigorate our comprehensive fundraising efforts in support of the education, research, and service mission of our university.

Please join me in extending our warmest congratulations to Beverly. We appreciate her longstanding dedication to UC Santa Barbara and her willingness to take on this important leadership role.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
