TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Chuck Haines as our next Director of Capital Development, effective October 20, 2011.

Chuck is a UC Santa Barbara alumnus, with a B.A. in Philosophy. In 1989 he began his career at UCSB in Housing & Residential Services, where he has held a number of positions over the years, including Resource Planning Coordinator and, most recently, Director of Business and Financial Planning. During his time in Housing & Residential Services, Chuck played a key role in the development of Manzanita Village, the purchase of Santa Catalina Hall (formerly Francisco Torres), and the pre-construction planning for San Clemente Villages. In August of 2010, Chuck began serving as our Interim Director of Capital Development.

I would like to thank Professor Joel Michaelsen, chair of our search advisory committee, and each of our committee members (listed below) for their excellent work on this search. I would also like to thank Assistant Chancellor, Budget and Planning Todd Lee and all of our colleagues who participated in the search process and provided input and advice.

Chuck is tremendously dedicated to our campus, and he has done an exemplary job as Interim Director. We look forward to his continuing valuable contributions as our Director of Capital Development. Please join me in extending our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Chuck.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
