TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues and Students:

A few days ago, Regents Chairman Russell Gould and President Mark Yudof wrote a letter to our university community regarding the newly formed UC Commission on the Future. They are inviting all of us to participate in a conversation with the Commission regarding the key issues facing UC and our joint vision for its future.

To this end, they have created a website at http://ucfuture.universityofcalifornia.edu, where information about the Commission and its five working groups can be found, as well as an online form for providing feedback. They are also launching a systemwide listening tour, with local forums to be held at each campus.

Our Santa Barbara campus is honored to host the first of these forums, on Thursday, October 22, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall. Members of the Commission and its five working groups from across the UC system are invited to join us to describe the scope of the work ahead. Representatives of our faculty, staff, and students have been invited to give formal presentations to the Commission. We will also have an open public comment period following these presentations.

For those not able to attend in person, the forum will be webcast at http://chancellor.ucsb.edu/ucfuture.

This is an important opportunity for our campus community to provide input to the Commission. I hope you will join us next Thursday and participate in this ongoing dialogue.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
