TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues and Students:

As we prepare for the start of the fall quarter, one issue of concern for our campus community is the prospect of a challenging flu season, with anticipated increases nationwide in the number of cases of H1N1 flu. I want to assure you that our campus has been planning carefully for the months ahead. We have a dedicated work team, made up of representatives from Student Health, Environmental Health and Safety, Student Affairs, Academic Senate, Human Resources, Public Affairs, and many other areas, that has been meeting regularly to discuss and implement the latest recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department.

I have asked our Campus Physician, Dr. Elizabeth Downing, to send a message to our campus community with information and recommendations on how to protect yourself and minimize the spread of the flu on our campus. You will receive her e-mail shortly. Further information and updates will be posted on our Student Health Service website, at http://studenthealth.sa.ucsb.edu.

We are committed to doing everything we can to support the health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed. If you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.

Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
