Dear Colleagues:

In my campus memo of January 7, I announced that after a decade of extraordinary leadership of our College of Engineering, Dr. Matthew Tirrell, our Richard A. Auhll Professor and Dean of Engineering, has decided to take on a new challenge as Chair of Bioengineering and Arnold and Barbara Silverman Professor of Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering at UC Berkeley.

We are grateful for Dean Tirrell’s countless contributions to our campus and especially to our College of Engineering, which has flourished under his outstanding leadership. We are fortunate that he has agreed to continue his deanship until the time of his departure from our campus in early summer.

Following consultation with the Academic Senate and engineering colleagues, EVC Gene Lucas and I are pleased to announce the formation of our search advisory committee for the next Dean of Engineering. We extend our sincere thanks to Professors Linda Petzold and Edward Kramer for graciously agreeing to co-chair this committee. We also thank all of the members listed below for their willingness to devote their valuable time and wisdom to this important search, for the benefit of our campus.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
