TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

After more than seven years of exceptional service to our campus community, Director of Governmental Relations Gerry Hesse will be retiring this month. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gerry for her tremendous dedication to our university.

Director Hesse has worked collaboratively and effectively with our administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni, community members, and public officials. She has been an eloquent advocate for UC Santa Barbara at all levels of government. She has also exemplified our commitment to public service, helping our campus to be a resource for our community, state, and nation.

Vice Chancellor John Wiemann and I are pleased to announce that the search has begun for our next Director of Governmental Relations. CNSI Education Director Fiona Goodchild and Vice Chancellor for Research Michael Witherell have graciously agreed to co-chair the search advisory committee. We extend our sincere thanks to them and to all of the committee members listed below, as well as to those who provided input during our consultative process to form this committee.

Please join us in thanking Director Hesse for her wonderful contributions and collegiality. We are honored to have her as part of our UCSB family, and we wish her and her husband, Rick, the very best in all that lies ahead.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
