TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Donna Carpenter has graciously agreed to serve as our vice chancellor for administrative services, effective May 18, 2006.

This appointment is the result of a thorough national search, and I sincerely thank the search advisory committee and its chair, Professor Tom Gerig, for their dedication, perseverance, and hard work. The members of the committee are listed below. I would also like to thank the many faculty and administrative colleagues who participated in the search and consultation process.

Donna has been part of the UC system for 33 years, and has served as our acting vice chancellor for administrative services since August of 2004. Prior to that she served as our campus controller and director of accounting services. She first joined UCSB’s Accounting Department in 1994, after 21 years at UC Riverside. She holds a B.S. from Cal Poly, Pomona, and an M.B.A. from the University of LaVerne.

This is a pivotal time for our campus, as we work together to update our Long Range Development Plan and fulfill our vision for graduate student housing as well as faculty and staff housing on the North Campus. I am delighted that Donna will continue to lead our campus in these efforts while overseeing the large and complex operations of Administrative Services. This Division encompasses all of the central administrative departments for the campus: Accounting Services and Controls, Audit and Advisory Services, Business Services, Campus Design and Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, Housing and Residential Services, Human Resources, Information Systems and Computing, the Police Department, and the University Center and Events Center.

Please join me in extending to Donna our warmest congratulations, and our appreciation for her willingness to serve our campus in this important leadership role.

Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
UC Santa Barbara
