TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

In my campus memo of July 11, 2005, I shared with you the news that after 16 years of extraordinary leadership as dean of our Graduate Division, Professor Charles Li had decided to return full-time to research and teaching in our Department of Linguistics. Professor Gale Morrison has graciously agreed to serve as Acting Dean since September 15, 2005.

Following consultation with the Academic Senate and Executive Vice Chancellor Gene Lucas, a Search Advisory Committee has been formed to identify candidates for the position of Dean, Graduate Division. Dr. Steven Gaines, Professor of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology, Director of the Marine Science Institute, and formerly the Acting Vice Chancellor, Research, has graciously agreed to chair this important committee. Members of the Search Advisory Committee are listed below. We want to express our appreciation in advance to the members of this committee for their willingness to spend their valuable time and wisdom to benefit our campus.

Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
