TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY
Dear Colleagues:
Last week I wrote to share the news that Professor Steven Allaback has decided to devote himself full-time to his distinguished teaching and research career in our Department of English, after 15 years of dedicated service as our campus’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. Today I am very pleased to announce that Professor Janis Ingham has graciously agreed to serve as our new Faculty Athletics Representative.
Dr. Ingham joined our campus community in 1969. She is a professor in our Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, and a self-professed “avid sports fan” across all sports, professional and collegiate. Janis provided outstanding leadership as chair of the Gender and Equity Subcommittee during UCSB’s NCAA certification process. She has served several terms as a member, and two terms as chair, of our Academic Senate Committee on Athletic Policy, which upholds UCSB’s high academic standards for student-athlete eligibility. She has also been a several-time member of our Intercollegiate Athletics Policy Board, a member of the search committee that successfully recruited Dr. Gary Cunningham as UCSB’s Athletics Director, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table.
Janis is deeply devoted to the student-athlete concept that is the cornerstone of UCSB athletics. Her knowledge, experience, enthusiasm, and sincere commitment will be tremendous assets for our campus as she takes on the role of NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. We are grateful for her willingness to serve our campus in this important and meaningful way. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Janis as she prepares to begin her new duties on September 1, 2005.
Sincerely,
Henry T. Yang
