TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

After fifteen years of dedicated service and able leadership of the UCSB Alumni Association, Peter Steiner has announced his retirement, effective September 1, 2005. As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs, Peter also serves as Executive Director of the UCSB Alumni Association.

We will begin a national search for Peter’s successor. I have just formed a Search Advisory Committee for the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Affairs and Executive Director of the UCSB Alumni Association. Mr. George Thurlow, Immediate Past President of the UCSB Alumni Association, and Dr. Paula Bruice, Senior Lecturer in our Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and a former member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, have graciously agreed to serve as the co-chairs of the committee. The list of committee members is shown below. If you have any suggestions or comments regarding the search process, please do not hesitate to contact the co-chairs and members of the Search Advisory Committee, Vice Chancellor John Wiemann, or me directly.

Please join me in thanking Peter for his distinguished service and leadership to the Alumni Association. We particularly appreciate his persistence and leadership in the successful pursuit of the vision and dream of the UCSB Alumni Association for the Mosher Alumni House. We are grateful to Peter for his dedicated loyalty, kind-hearted warmth, and wonderful ambassadorship over these past fifteen years.
