TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

In a recent campus memo, I shared with you the news that Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services George Pernsteiner will soon be departing UCSB to take up his new position as interim chancellor, executive vice chancellor, and chief operating officer for the Oregon University System.

I am pleased to announce that Donna Carpenter has graciously agreed to serve as our acting vice chancellor of administrative services, effective August 7, 2004. Donna has been part of our UCSB community since 1994. She came to us from UC Riverside, where she had worked for twenty years, three of them as director of accounting services. She holds a bachelor’s degree from California Polytechnic State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of La Verne. As director of accounting services and controls here at UCSB, Donna has demonstrated exceptional diligence, wise management, and a strong commitment to our university’s mission. Donna is well known on our campus and is held in high regard by her colleagues in the Administrative Services Division. I am confident that she will do a superb job in this acting position.

I will move forward quickly to form a search advisory committee to undertake a search for our next vice chancellor for administrative services. In the meantime, please join me in thanking Donna for her dedication to our campus and her willingness to take on these important additional responsibilities.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
