TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I write to inform you of the departure from UCSB of our Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, George Pernsteiner, who today has been appointed to lead the Oregon University System as Interim Chancellor, Executive Vice Chancellor, and Chief Operating Officer. The announcement of his appointment was made this morning in Ashland, Oregon, by the State Board of Higher Education.

I feel proud and happy about this tremendous advancement for George. This appointment in Oregon is an exciting opportunity for him to lead and contribute to the future of that state's higher education system, which includes seven campuses, among them the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and the Oregon Institute of Technology.

George has done an exceptional job as our Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, and our campus will miss him greatly. I will move quickly to consult with our campus community to appoint an Acting Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services, who will be in place before George's departure in July. I will also immediately begin consultations on the search for a successor.

In the meantime, please join me in congratulating George and wishing him great success in his new position.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
