TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the formation of two Boards: the Parking Rate Payers Board and the Alternative Transportation Board. These Boards replace all previous committees dealing with parking and transportation.

The Parking Rate Payers Board will have oversight of all campus policies related to parking and of parking operations and finances, and will advise our campus on parking rates and the allocation of funds raised by parking rates. The Alternative Transportation Board will have oversight of all campus policies related to campus access by other than single-occupancy vehicles, and will advise our campus on the allocation of funding for alternative transportation programs as well as the implementation of programs to enhance cost-effective and convenient access to and around the campus.

Consistent with the recommendations of the Chancellor’s Special Advisory Committee on Parking and the Interim Parking Advisory Committee, each Board will be composed of nine members: three faculty, three staff and three students. Due to the difficult logistics of holding elections, I have accepted the recommendation of the Interim Advisory Committee on Parking to appoint members based on the recommendation of representative campus groups. Initial terms of the members will be between one and three years to allow for staggered terms for new and continuing members in the future. Additional information about these Boards can be found in the Recommendations section of the Special Advisory Committee’s Final Report on the Transportation and Parking website at http://tps.ucsb.edu/PDF/Final_Report.pdf

Each Board will elect its own Chair and Vice Chair at its first meeting, to be held after the start of Winter Quarter. I want to express my deep appreciation to all of the members of these two Boards for their willingness to deliberate the many aspects of the parking and transportation issues that face our campus. The members of the two Boards are listed on the reverse of this memo.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
