Dear Friends and Colleagues:

UCSB is a wonderful community of students, faculty, and staff. Together, we share many of the experiences of a community: achievement, success, and hard work, just to name a few. Helping those in need is one of the things a community does best. At UCSB, the Santa Barbara County’s United Way provides a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our support for the many agencies that serve our campus, Isla Vista, and the greater Santa Barbara community.

Giving to Santa Barbara County’s United Way allows you to help thousands of local people in a way that no one charity can do alone. Through the Network for Caring of 90+ interrelated services and programs, our local United Way is able to: help people in crisis, strengthen youth, reinforce families, support seniors, provide child care, fight alcoholism and drug abuse, work with those with disabilities, and help better the overall health of our community.

Last year, UCSB raised over $93,000. I send my heartfelt thanks to all the staff, faculty, and students who contributed to the United Way campaign. This year, the UCSB United Way campaign will run from January 21 through February 14, 2003. Our goal this year is to raise $100,000. Together I know that we can reach this goal, which will enable us to help more of our neighbors in need.

Please take a moment to review the enclosed materials. If you have any questions regarding the UCSB United Way campaign, please contact your Department or Faculty Representative, or call Gretchen Falvo at x7382.

I am very pleased that UCSB is a leader in supporting our community through the annual United Way campaign, and in so many other ways as well. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in our community who need our help.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
