TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Fisher as Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Design and Facilities, effective December 1, 2002. This appointment is the result of an extensive national search and recruitment process.

I want to thank Vice Chancellor George Pernsteiner for his tremendous efforts in participating in this search process and making the recommendation to appoint Marc to this position.

I also want to thank the members of our search advisory committee and its chair, Carol Pasternack, for their devotion, patience, and wisdom. It is a job extremely well done. The members of the committee are listed below.

Marc Fisher has served for the past six years as Campus Architect and Director of Design at UCLA, where he has overseen the design process for numerous complex facilities, including classrooms, offices, laboratories, residences, parking structures, and hospitals. He has developed and maintained the constantly evolving UCLA campus master plan and established campus standards for architecture, urban design, and landscaping.  Prior to joining UCLA, Marc served as a design architect for 12 years on projects as diverse as the landscape around the Getty Center, motion picture studios, and retail stores. He also has significant planning experience.

Marc Fisher received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University.

At UCSB, Marc will oversee the design and construction of the facilities included in our seven-year, $750 million building program, as well as the operation and maintenance of our buildings and grounds. He will also direct parking and alternative transportation activities.

In addition to thanking our search committee, I also want to thank our many faculty and administrative colleagues who participated in the search process. Please join me in welcoming Marc Fisher to our UCSB community.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
