TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

As you know, Executive Vice Chancellor Ilene Nagel has decided to accept a position with the Office of the President. We are all grateful for her many contributions to the campus. I regret that Professors Stanley Awramik and Cynthia Brown, both of whom were appointed by EVC Nagel to share the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel, intend to leave their positions next month. They have served the campus admirably and with great dedication.

After consulting with the Vice Chancellors, Deans, Provosts, Academic Senate, and others, I am inviting a faculty advisory group to assist me in appointing an Acting Executive Vice Chancellor. I am also consulting with colleagues familiar with academic personnel matters to appoint an Acting Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel as soon as possible.

The Deans, Provosts, Vice Chancellors, and Associate Vice Chancellors, as well as the relevant Academic Senate committees, are working closely with me to ensure that all the pressing and daily business of the campus is carried out, including FTE and budget allocations and academic personnel cases. I thank them and all of our Chairs and Directors for their leadership.

Although we are in a period of transition, UCSB has a strong and solid formation. The campus can have confidence that we will move ahead quickly and efficiently in a spirit of cooperation an collaboration. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang

Chancellor
