TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

After an extensive national search and upon recommendation of the Search Advisory Committee, Vice Chancellor Wiemann and I are pleased to announce that Ms. Geraldine (Gerry) Hesse has been appointed as our next Director of Governmental Relations, effective May 15, 2001.  

Ms. Hesse has over 10 years experience in governmental relations as special assistant to the governor of Georgia, as a policy analyst for the Georgia Senate, and as aide to the president pro tempore of the Georgia State Senate.  She earned an MBA from the Babcock Graduate School of Management, Wake Forest University.

On behalf of the UCSB community, I would like to thank the members of the Search Advisory Committee for the Director of Governmental Relations for their dedicated and effective recruitment efforts.  The membership of this committee, chaired by Director Jim Reichman, is listed below.  I would also like to thank all those who provided their input during the search process.
