November 22, 2024

Dear Members of Our Campus Community,

As we announced in a memo of August 9, 2024, after 16 years of outstanding leadership, Susan and Bruce Worster Dean of Science and Professor of Physics Pierre Wiltzius decided to retire, effective September 1, 2024. Professor Shelly Gable has graciously agreed to serve as Interim Dean while we conduct our search.

Following consultation with our Executive Vice Chancellor, our Academic Senate Chair and Committee on Committees, faculty and administrative colleagues, Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council and Staff Assembly, and graduate and undergraduate students, I am pleased to announce that the search advisory committee for our next Dean of Mathematical, Life, and Physical Sciences has been formed. Professors Alison Butler and David Weld have graciously agreed to serve as co-chairs of the committee. I thank each of our committee members listed below and the co-chairs of the committee in advance for their commitment of time and wisdom to help our campus with this important search. I also thank all of those who have been part of the consultation process in the formation of this committee.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
