President Yudof's Statement on FurloughsApril 7, 2009

TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY

Dear Colleagues:

UC President Mark Yudof and all the chancellors met in Oakland on April 1. Among the topics discussed was the serious fiscal challenge facing our university.

President Yudof has written a statement regarding plans being developed for the possibility of employee furloughs and/or temporary and permanent salary reductions. I am sharing his statement, attached, with our campus community.

Please do not hesitate to e-mail or call any of the members of our Coordinating Committee on Budget Strategy or me if you have comments or questions.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for your understanding, patience, and sacrifice during this unprecedented budget crisis for our university. I look forward to working with you to face this challenge and create opportunities for the future.

Sincerely,

Henry T. Yang
Chancellor
